Management is Like Oxygen

“Unfortunately it’s also true to say that good management is a bit like oxygen – it’s invisible and you don’t notice its presence until it’s gone, and then you’re sorry.” ― Charles Stross

Whatever is not managed is likely to go awry. This underscores the import of good management in every enterprise. Yet, employees seem to hate management – looking at the managers as thumb tweedlers, who contribute nothing. Both parts need a view correction.
The workers need to see the value integration and alignment brings – this is where teams yield outputs that coalesce. Bereft of managerial efforts, inefficiencies and non-completion of projects would creep in.
The management too needs to not domineer and bully – they need to act consensually with the workers. Their policy making has to be seen as value adding, bringing excellence in repeat situations, and mitigating risks in new initiatives.

“Little by little the agents have taken over the world. They don’t do anything, they don’t make anything, they just stand and take their cut.” ― Mœbius
